New Music: Causes
November 9, 2015
After trading England for Amsterdam in search for love, British singer/songwriter Rupert Blackman found his new sound with band Causes. The boys – Jan Schröder on guitar, drummer Simon Boeing-Messing and bassist Robert Pronk – have already seen massive success in Holland with their single Teach Me How To Dance With You that went platinum, and now they’re looking to take over the UK.
To The River is the leading track from the group’s new EP out on December 4th, and it is the first taste of their debut album that is scheduled for release in the forthcoming year on the Year One/ RCA label. Also on the record is a remix of the piece by fellow Amsterdam residents, production pair The Him. Produced by Ian Grimble, who has also worked with the likes of Daughter and Bear’s Den, the song is an infectious example of the brooding pop material that the foursome are currently still working on.
Their newly released music video was directed by Johnny Mourge and sees the guys in a youthful, emotional and highly powerful environment where their hauntingly atmospheric guitar sound is right at home. Aesthetically, the lads have the effortless nonchalance of a band on the rise too, preferring to join the ranks of their peers and let their music speak for them, as opposed to making bold fashion statements to distract from the reason that they create material like some more mainstream artists opt to do.
It seems that Causes have found their place under the indie-pop umbrella by keeping the traditional nature of a band and making it commercially very appetizing.
The talented musicians will be playing their first London show at The Waiting Room on the 17th of November, before heading back to the Netherlands for a number of dates at three festivals over the Christmas period and January. You can check out their new music video above.
