A Staycation With Sophistication, Clowance Estate Cornwall

August 16, 2018

For those discerning travellers who are keen to support the local economy and considering the option of a staycation but have nagging doubts about the quality of self-catering accommodation, they should check out sites like luxury lodges for some enticing holiday ideas. We took inspiration from their site and visited one of their most stunning properties, The Glass Lodge at Clowance Estate in Cornwall.

From prime ministers to celebrities, Cornwall has always been a prime destination of choice for those who have sought an idyllic break closer to home. Clowance Estate is the perfect base to explore the county as it is only 12 miles from Penzance and 12 miles from Truro and in close proximity to both the North and South coast.

As you entered the pristine estate grounds, you get a sense of the historic nature of the site but also a keen sense they want to develop the facilities for a more modern audience. The check-in reception is in the more antiquated 18th-century manor house complete with a heated swimming pool, sauna, gym and bar with live entertainment on weekends.

The more impressive part is reaching your luxury lodge with a gorgeous glassed A-frame overlooking serene Cornish fields. The property is extremely spacious with 3 bedrooms sleeping up to 6 people. There is an en-suite master bedroom complete with a dreamy super king-size bed, a twin room and an adorable mezzanine level for children to sleep in or those who are young-at-heart.

The living room is the size of most people’s flats in London and contain both hi-tech equipment like smart TV and also personable touches like artwork celebrating the Cornish coastline as well as all your homely needs like a toaster, Nespresso machine, induction hob, well-sized fridge, freezer and corner sofa.

The outdoor areas are not neglected including a giant outdoor patio perfect for al fresco dining and a luxurious outdoor hot tub meaning you can sit and gaze at the stars no matter what season you are visiting. The only disappointing factor is no pets are allowed at Clowance Estate.

There are plenty of activities to enjoy on the 97-acre estate including tennis, badminton, trail hiking and a 9 hole golf course. The highlights I would recommend are rowing on their serene 4-acre lake; they are currently building a special boathouse for guests to stay by the lake. And also learning to segway around the estate is hugely enjoyable; you quite often see Segways on sightseeing tours around European cities, but somehow the laws haven’t caught up in the UK yet and they are only allowed on private properties.

During our stay, we took day trips to see Tintagel Castle, which is inextricably linked with the legend of King Arthur and also trendy St Ives with their seafront shops, restaurants, and art shops. If you are a fan of sculptures, then a visit to the sculpture garden at the Barbara Hepworth museum will bring endless artistic satisfaction.

With all the modernisation works going on at Clowance Estate and Cornwall as a whole, the area is bound to attract a new wave of young, vibrant visitors.
