When The Beaumont appeared on London’s hotel scene last November, we knew it wasn’t just any old place. Perhaps it was the quiet sophistication of the interiors, perhaps the stark addition of Anthony Gormley’s one-off sculptural suite. A year on, The Beaumont has proven its commitment to innovation and old-world class with another interesting collaboration – this time with much-celebrated Mayfair bookshop Heywood Hill.
To celebrate its one-year anniversary, The Beaumont is offering ‘A Year in Paper,’ a special package born of the new partnership. Paying homage to the classic first anniversary gift, the collaboration will combine a night’s stay at the hotel with a subscription to Heywood Hill’s ‘A Year in Books’ service. Bibliophiles will have the chance to visit the established bookshop for a reading consultation with one of Heywood’s dedicated booksellers, who will ascertain their tastes and compile twelve tailored books to be delivered to the reader on a monthly basis over the course of the year.
Heywood Hill has been a Mayfair staple for literary aficionados since it opened in 1936, and has dedicated staff on hand to advise customers on the perfect read; surely a seamless match for the old-world nostalgic theme that runs through The Beaumont. The luxurious boutique property, which was London restauranteurs Corbin & King’s first venture into the hotel industry, wistfully recalls the golden era of the 1920’s in both décor and feel. With European Art Deco design and hints of American finesse, the hotel features 50 guestrooms in a range of sizes, with dining inspired by both sides of The Atlantic in The Colony Grill Room and a selection of premium bourbons and whiskies in The American Bar, as well as a spa hammam and a navy blue vintage Daimler used to ferry guests around London.
Owner Jeremy King personally selected the books found standing on the shelves of each of the guestrooms, and noted, “When choosing the books for The Beaumont, the criteria were somewhat selfishly defined by my preferences.” This new offering acts as a natural remedy, offering guests an opportunity to seek out their very own personalised literature under an esteemed, expert eye.
‘A Year in Paper’ starts at £555 per room per night, including one night’s stay at The Beaumont with breakfast, complimentary use of the hotel’s hamman and blue vintage Daimler, and one year’s supply of Heywood Hill’s chosen paperback books.
