Blood Brother ask you to ‘LOGIN’
December 20, 2017
For SS18 Blood Brother ask you to LOGIN and abscond from our current reality, as a form of escapism from our increasingly negative and harmful environment that is the modern and self-inflicted human experience.
The SS18 collection is an abstract look at our immediate future and the way we are currently treating and subsequently destroying our planet. With certain global leaders calling global warming a ‘hoax’, our planet’s natural resources may soon be fantasy, and it may not be long before we will have to disappear online to seek what we desire.
With the rise of technology and our physical relationship with it, the collection aims to playfully engage into the idea of seeking personal pleasures in a digital HAVEN. As we push the limits of technology to the ultimate destination of full AI, in which human kind is obsolete, why not have fun in an imaginary world as a final salute to being a human destined to self-destruct?
Blood Brother continues to use digital prints as a medium to explore the seasons theme, featuring priceless cars and fast women in the digital playground created by the big brother-esque BBCORP. These examples of fantasy are accompanied by telling signs of commercialisation and glitches in the seemingly perfect landscape, in the form of finger prints and sleazy advertising. An authoritative advertising typeface runs through the collection enhancing the feeling of corporate control.
The collection features checked wool alongside sheer eggshell-grey nylon. Tailored city slicker jackets and boiler suits give an authentic nod to nostalgic and outdated objects of vintage technology, with silhouettes that give further rigidity to the familiar relaxed silhouette of the brand.
Hedonistic fringing and tie-die are found throughout the collection, in addition to the classic Blood Brother trench coat in patent mock croc, encouraging exhibitionism through a removal of human inhibition.
Photographic imagery of a Lamborghini Diablo, gives rise to the ‘Fast Car’ colour palette in primary pop colours to show off in the digital gigawatt sun.
Blood Brother continue to explore their accessory offering, continuing last season’s popular cross- body bag, reimagined in red suede fringing, bland checks and patent croc. The loafer is this season’s new edition to the footwear range, creating another link to the yuppie phenomenon of the early tech-era.
