There was a lot of anticipation ahead of Coach’s debut menswear collection, and Stuart Vevers most certainly did not disappoint. The 26-look collection exuded a refined masculine energy – polished, strong and very, very wearable. It was intrepid explorer meets city slick; it was the blustery mountaintops meets High Balls at 5. It was the perfect hybrid of traditional menswear silhouettes and cuts with luxurious fabrications in a tasteful and commercial colour palette.
Coats of distressed green leather with shearling trim, varsity jackets in panelled shearling, high tops with shearling tongues – shearling was a big deal in this debut. Some could, and some will argue that it looks a little too heavy, but its weight and proportion only serve to encourage that feeling of luxury that is inherent to the collection. Camouflage-printed parkas with shearling trim on the hood, padded bombers and syrup coloured leather jackets give a youthfulness and vibrancy, while most looks were completed with tapered tailored trousers in an exquisite charcoal grey. And the accessories brand brought their best with this collection – grown up satchels, sophisticated totes, backpacks and a man clutch reinforced the confidence of this collection.
This is a very strong debut from Vevers. It is a discerning, elegant and assured collection that sets the bar high for every collection to come – and we can’t wait to see what comes next.
