Father’s Day by Johnnie Walker & The Gentleman’s Tasting Menu
June 15, 2016
Father’s Day – and fathers’ presents in general – are pretty difficult to get right. Or to get at all. Something impersonal like a voucher or something boring, usually from Wickes, is often the fall back. Mother’s Day on the other hand has a wealth of options, from flowers to afternoon tea, catered to the occasion, so why not Dad? Johnnie Walker have fixed that and has collaborated with Johnnie Walker Blue Label to create The Gentleman’s Tasting Menu at M Restaurant in Victoria.
The four-course dining experience – coupled with an exclusive cocktail made from the prestigious Scotch blend which also features as an ingredient throughout the dining experience – is the perfectly suited to treat your old man, and it is an experience he will neither expect nor forget.
Taking inspiration from the short film, The Gentleman’s Wager II, which stars Oscar nominated actor Jude Law, the tasting menu’s authentic, fresh and rich flavours mirror the journey taken by Law from Italy to Monaco as he attempts to win a wager.
Guests are welcomed with The Blue Rose, a cocktail infused with Johnnie Walker Blue Label and orange and rose water, to be enjoyed within the aptly named Secret Den – a hidden room usually only open to private members. The main event is the beef short rib, braised for 72 hours in a fine Johnnie Walker Blue Label scotch marinade with sugar and spices, which combine to intensify the flavour of the meat. To round off the meal, M Victoria Street’s infamous dessert take on a Waldorf salad with blue cheese ice cream – we’ve tried it, it’s weird, but in a great way – is perfectly paired with the Den Duet, another Johnnie Walker Blue Label cocktail.
“I enjoyed creating this menu, using rich flavours from the Italian Rivera such as Pecorino, Olive Oil and Truffle,” said Michael Reid, M’s executive chef. “This menu is ideal for gifting any discerning gentleman this Father’s Day.”
The Gentleman’s Tasting Menu (below) is priced at £125 and is served on 17, 18 and 19 June at M Victoria Street, London.
