Footwear goes futuristic with PUMAxMcQ

In our current print issue (The Fashion Issue) we talk about the paradox of modern heritage – blending decades, and in some cases centuries-old traditions and craftsmanship with modern developments in technology and fabrications. The results can be masterfully innovative and there is something inherently British about combining history with modernity. It’s fashion transformation at its finest. PUMA teaming up with McQ (PUMAxMcQ) for spring/summer 2016 certainly caught our eye. The union looks back to the most iconic styles of PUMA’s 90s running archive and to the contemporary aesthetic of McQ.

PUMA has been crafting sports-led footwear and accessories for over sixty-five years and slots in nicely with the global athleisure phenomenon, while McQ, which just turned eleven on the 1st of January, is the contemporary diffusion brand founded by Alexander McQueen. The outcome is a set of sports shoes that at first glance look more form than function, but we have a feeling PUMAxMcQ just changed the running game.

Available for purchase on the 6th of February via premium global retailers, the PUMAxMcQ range includes a Cell Mid (ponyskin, elastic strap, plastic buckle and an insock), McQ Cell Lo (velcro, crystal leather, 3D logo) and a McQ Tech Runner Sandal (translucent TPU overlay and cutouts). Textures and finishes take the range to the next level with cork and metallics combined with leather and suede-esque nubuck. Sign us up.
