James Long Spring/Summer 2016
June 14, 2015
Tori Amos’s ‘Cornflake Girl’ summed up the teen spirit of show that was classically James Long this afternoon on day three of London Collections: Men. “I was looking at people who are natural in their clothing, they think they’re blending in, but they’re totally not,” Long said of his SS16 man.
Tie-dyed and ripped or patchwork denim sat with Long’s signature undone, striped, inside-out knitwear in clashing colours. Painters’ jeans were a highlight, adding to the out there but “accidental” colour explosion. Camouflage navy nylon in dinner jackets or a trench worn off the shoulder, worn with denim or grunge style pyjama trousers or gym shorts, gave a walk-of-shame vibe. The clash of colours were brought together in a jacquard of fuzzy BBC channel, and each fabric patch worked to make a coat. Long, and LCM, are telling us the Nineties are back.
