Jenny Schwarz: AW 2013
January 15, 2013
With mens tailoring rooted in her history, Jenny Schwarz delivers us another perfectly crafted collection, indeed confirming her skillful hand and rigorous eye. Staying true to form, Schwarz reflects and draws upon the past, yet celebrates the silhouettes and techniques of today.
Her AW ’13 leading man is none other than notorious outlaw, Jesse James. With a schedule of horse-back riding, shoot-ups, and farming, the collection is made up of fabrics with imperfections, such as inbuilt holes, indicting hard work and age. Despite a kind of shabby/rough aesthetic, Schwarz doesn’t neglect the wearers experience of fabric. There is an overlap between the practical and the luxurious- a starched cotton shirt beneath a sheep-fur collared leather jacket.
The tailored blazer becomes central in Schwarz’ AW collection, reflecting a time of discarded clothes, and hand-me-downs. She visualises them astride a catering horse, thus providing her confederates with high-cut back vents and sturdy fabrics.
Colours remain a subdued pallet of blacks and greys, however with hints of rich burgundy’s, soothing teals, and thick creams.
So what were out favourites? The team oozed over her thick leather suspender belts- essential when working the land; and where would any member of James’ crew be without a soft pair of woolly long-johns?
