Jones & Payne Salon Review
September 5, 2014
Partnered with St Martins Lane Hotel, Jones & Payne has an atmospheric elegance about it. Available to non-residents this salon feels exclusive and private thanks to the curtains covering the windows, it is those aesthetics which really pushes the exclusivity and sometimes elitism in West End salons. Its intimate and comforting approach allows relaxation and even a home salon feeling with the attentive and friendly staff lead by Creative Director Ricky Lee Jones.
Jones & Payne aim to bring their trademark East End cool factor to the West End, they attempt this by installing hand picked unique antique décor. This concept doesn’t quite make itself clear, however the use of the antique décor does give this place a feeling of renewed decadence. If anything the salon just feels like you have stepped through the curtains into the set of a period drama in a barber shop scene. The salon is beautiful and the serving of your accompanying coffee with your service has been well thought out being served on a Willow patterned tray with accompanying cup and saucer. It is these small details that really give the salon its identity.
The privacy of the salon is possibly Jones & Payne’s best feature, even at the wash basin you are behind a screen giving you privacy against other customers. There is nothing worse than being in a salon where you need to shout over hair dryers, sit amongst four mothers, a screaming child and that apprentice that really doesn’t fancy washing your hair. The boutique is quiet and refreshing and you really feel you have a professional recreating your hair. It comes as no surprise the salon has won a string of prestigious awards since 2010 including British Hairdressing Awards for ‘Interior Design’ and the London Lifestyle Award for Best Hairdressing Salon.
The products used in a salon can be just as important as the cut, you need to know that you can either recreate this look again or that the look you have, is going to stay for the rest of your. Jones & Payne use two main brands including UNITE which is used in various salons, behind the scenes at fashion week and on photo-shoots giving you the trust in the brand to know that all professionals use it. The other brand Jones & Payne use is GO24.7 developed by the makers of UNITE hair products, GO24.7 is everyday grooming products for men. They are designed to be lightweight and provide a range of textures and finishes with signature fragrances.
Prices are reasonable and start at £50 for a cut and finish from a stylist level and colour services from £55.
We personally recommend Matt Creasey for your cut and finish and Harry Bolton for your colour service.
