Kit Neale Spring/Summer 2016
June 12, 2015
Packed to the Victoria House rafters – or whatever the basement equivalent of rafters is – guests sweltered as Kit Neale provided more of the chaotic brights that he is best known for. After the AW15 circus-themed show, there was no sign of paring back on the prints or accessories, which features pom-pom earrings and floral bucket hats.
Taking a more graphic for SS16 rather than that of year’s text-based print approach, scribbled florals were everywhere while psychedelic boiler suits and trousers added to the unruly palette. Shapes were loose and relaxed, with cropped trousers, shirts and T-shirts coming oversized. Other prints such as a monkey character and a chef pig – hand-drawn by Neale’s partner Caspar Hodgson and printed and embellished onto silks – with slogans like ‘Le Chef’ and ‘Here Comes Trouble’ were seen on T-Shirts, and ‘Bill Clinton’ on one side of a gingham shirt added to the flung together and print-clashing look. Neale’s show notes said one his main inspirations was car boot sales as well as artists like Grayson Perry – that explains the boy in the floral tea dresses then.
