LCM: Christopher Shannon AW’14
January 10, 2014
Christopher Shannon has managed to get the sexy wet footballer from the 1970s look down to a tee. Shaking things up at this year’s London Collections exploring his take on old school tracksuits with giant floral motifs on anoraks, running splits with sleek leather track trousers which were sexy, fun and fresh.
Armed with updated leather tracksuits and oversized knitwear where Shannon seems to have released his own signature brand of cigarettes. Emblazing them all over his brightly coloured jumpers – smoking has never looked cooler.
Models came out onto the runway with wet hair and dewy faces strutting down the runway in not just your average everyday sportswear. With some reworked pieces being sewn and re-sewn to create a skewed vision of sportswear. Sleeves were sewn onto the back of short shorts or to the side of a track jacket, signalling an ode to the early years of Thatcherism and the post-punk era.
The British designer isn’t afraid to use in-your-face colours and florals for the next Autumn menswear collection. Using almost every bright hue in the colour spectrum from kumquat to fuchsias. All the pieces came together to define a laid-back statement on everyday streetwear style.
