LCM: Nicole Farhi SS’14
June 21, 2013
Creative Director Joanna Skyes wanted a collection that was soulful and calm – a contrast to the chaotic world. She wanted to keep it simple, in keeping with her signature, relaxed approach. And so it was. The British designer, who was appointed as the brand’s Creative Director in 2012 by Nicole Farhi herself, showed us a simple, clean collection with a real ease.
The collection oozed effortless elegance and timeless style that Joanna Skyes is famous for. Neutral, muted tones dominated the colour palette, which was honest and true to the designer’s peaceful aesthetic. It started off humble with the first model looking dapper in a long grey coat, worn over trousers, cropped at the knee (cropped trousers recurred throughout) and a subtle top. For SS14, the gifted designer showed us slick separates and sharp tailoring, which were organic and natural. Luxury fabrics such as cotton gauze, chalked leather, suede and rustic interlocked jersey featured.
The microprints that adorned tailored garments came in bleached tones of slate grey, sanded beige and cornflower blue. We also saw linear designs and intarsia prints underneath slouchy silhouettes. To finish of the relaxed look, models stepped out in soft leather espadrilles.
Overall, it was a collection complete with luxurious, fine tailoring and seasonal staples, to update the wardrobes of every man.
