London Fashion Week Style Diary with Kris James
September 21, 2017
Kris James, singer songwriter, and a regular front-row attendee of London Fashion Week and London Fashion Week Men’s joined the Candid Magazine editorial team over London Fashion Week for spring/summer 2018 to do a Candid Magazine LFW Style Diary. The band’s new album is coming out soon. In the meantime, catch up on Kris’s experience as part of the Candid team below.
My LFW started with the ever so quintessential British brand, DAKS. This season I decided to wear a mix of designer and high street. In between shows I changed and hung out at the Westbury Hotel.
I arrived with Candid Magazine Editor-in-Chief, Courtney Blackman and Fashion & Grooming Editor, Ross Pollard, in a Bentley Mulsanne, courtesy of H.R. Owen Bentley’s VIP services, who were partnering with Candid Magazine over London Fashion Week.
The two words I would use to describe the DAKS show are British and elegance. I could definitely see myself dressed in the spring/summer 2018 menswear, especially on the Cambridge canals, punting with a picnic.
My next show was the ever-so-endearing Joshua Kane. I was very much looking forward to this after last year’s theatrical show. Spring/summer 2018 did not disappoint. It was a magical experience at the London Palladium on a Friday night. Exquisite men’s and womenswear, beautifully made – very traditional tailored suits. I loved the choice of colours; unreal!
I was lucky enough to pop backstage and meet the designer – a very humble and down-to-earth guy. I’ve been following John Herrera since last season and was so pleased to see a catwalk show instead of a presentation.
Last season John concentrated on the most beautiful unique bird prints, but there was no sign of a bird this year. The spring/summer 2018 collection was based around a medieval map and 16th century nobility – absolutely amazing! I loved the choice of colours. This was also the most crowded show of London Fashion Week. John Herrera has definitely built up a following in London.
A personal favourite of mine, Kolchagov Barba was an exceptional mix of tailored dresses in vibrant colours – absolutely breath-taking. On the front row with me was my fellow scouser, Nicola Roberts and Lady Colin Campbell.
Monday the 18th was my last day at LFW and what a way to finish at my fave hotel, The Dorchester, at the Roja fragrance launch in the China Tang restaurant. I found it interesting that Roja has designed his collection around UAE countries he had visited. Each scent was so unique, as if you were instantly transported to the hustle and bustle of Qatar.
Then it was off to see an old friend Julien Macdonald’s amazing show, at the Bankside Vaults. I turned up to queues of hundreds of people. I loved the way the collection was based around a night club. All the models were ‘known faces’. It was an amazing collection. Everything was wearable and it was just perfectly cast. I could see myself wearing key pieces.
Thanks for following my LFW Diary. Much love to the team at Candid for having me. See you in 2018.
