London Fashion Week: Bora Aksu A/W ’13
February 18, 2013
This season the on-schedule shows at London Fashion Week started off with a bang, first with Zoe Jordan then onto the amazing collection from Bora Aksu. For autumn / winter the Turkish Central Saint Martins alumni showed a succession of tonal looks ranging from soft creams to intense magenta and purple that played with texture and form to create a visually captivating collection.
Sheer silk, laser-cut lace and exquisite rouching provided the feminine elements of the collection and came on skirts, dresses and blouses. In contrast to these softer elements came the structural tour-de-forces of Aksu’s show – leather, fur and wool were sculpted into bodices, corsets and bold separates which worked together harmoniously.
Aksu’s signature statement knitwear was also evident in this collection, however this season the designer used his rope-like creations in trims and detailing to allow other features and techniques to shine through whilst still remaining true to form. There was also a subtle use of prints in the form of all-over tapestry and tile prints which were coordinated from head to toe. Dresses, blouses, skirts and blazers were all constructed in the same fabric and print, worn all together which created a uniformity that wasn’t too overpowering.
Aksu has perfectly balanced the task of creating garments that are both artistic and wearable, and is a shining example of what is great about London fashion right now.
