Goldhawk Road seems to be getting rather trendy. But perhaps that’s all because of Market Yard, a hip’n’gritty venue hosting foodie pop ups under the railway arches. Whatever the reason, we went west for a taste of Made of Dough’s legendary pizza, which will be served here with gusto until the 1st May 2016.
Award-winning Neapolitan pizza specialists Made of Dough (namely old friends Henry and Ed) made a name for themselves from their Pop Brixton kiosk and are all set to launch their permanent restaurant in South London this summer. The two-man team’s Italian and Southern Spanish roots result in a brief but eclectic menu featuring ingredients such as San Marzano tomato, Brindisa chorizo, Girona Serrano ham and organic sobradsada.
Pretty much all of their produce is sourced from their respective home towns – flour is milled in Naples, fior de latte is driven in from Campania and piquillo peppers arrive fresh from Andalusia twice a week. A series of pizzas featured thick, sumptuous dough, crafted with a 60-hour fermentation process that has been passed down through the family. They were served alongside a range of homemade dips including olive & anchovy tapenade and fresh pesto, but our favourites, naturally, came doused in a good dose of fragrant truffle oil.
A word on cocktails, because Made of Dough is really rather good at them. Inspired by summer (despite the steely skies, they tried damn hard to make us feel as though it was on its way), there was a juicy Blood Orange Sangria, an Amalfi Negroni and a Stailbano Spritz on offer, alongside a selection of Spanish and Italian wine and beer.
That said, the highlight was probably the dessert pizza. Because honestly, what more could you want from the world than warm folded dough oozing Nutella and hazelnuts?
Made of Dough’s pop-up restaurant features at Market Yard until 1st May 2016.
