Monkeying Around In Mayfair, MNKY HSE
July 10, 2018
MNKY HSE, whilst the name is phonetically challenging, the venue stands true to its mantra in delivering; Latin American cuisine re-imagined in a cavernous, vibrant, energetic and edgy location.
It was late in the week when we visited to test-drive chef Mark Morrans new menu. Morran whose extensive knowledge of both South American and Japanese cuisine from stints at Kurobuta, Wabi, Nobu, and latterly Senor Ceviche we hoped we would be in for a treat.
Walking down the mirrored staircase you’re greeted by hoards of staff dressed in a variety of costumes. To the left, a surprisingly intimate bar which from the exterior you wouldn’t expect to find.
MNKY HSE does feel like a party destination but there is substance as well as style.
MNKY ceviche offered plenty of sweet and bitterness complimented the seabass alongside a punchy tigers milk. Prawn tempura was light and crisp and encased sweet juicy king prawns which flirted with the accompanying spicy mayo.
Octopus morsels were soft and tender and definitely a highlight amongst the dishes we tried. Beef Brisket soft tacos were moreish and had a punchy chilli kick.
To finish off, a delicately spiced pumpkin brûlée was exceptional not too sweet a surprisingly delicious.
There’s plenty to enjoy at MNKY HSE. It’s not for everyone however, it would take a great deal to dampen its Latin spirit.
