New Music: Adna

21-year-old Adna Kadic has crafted her latest single, the conflictingly named Beautiful Hell and it is a musical masterpiece. Her seductively haunting voice is subtly built up in layers throughout the track and weaves itself together in a way that captures the title’s sentiment – it is like a dark, pained version of a Disney song. The singer, known professionally simply as Adna, intially writes her material in her native Swedish tongue, before converting it into English to widen the market.

By beginning her career with a sound that has a simple yet effective style, Adna can take her music wherever she wants it to go and already the maturity in her vocals seem way beyond her years. Based in Berlin and born in Sweden, the effect these influential scenes have had on her material can be clearly heard. With Swedish shops &OtherStories and Acne in mind, her music is also reflective of the creative scene in Sweden: on-trend in a minimalistic yet powerful way.

Adna recently supported Bournemouth born electronic musician East India Youth on tour and Beautiful Hell was made available on April 29th. The record has been remixed by another rising Swedish star Eternal Death, and was released first from the remix EP, which came out on May 20th. It follows two LPs, debut album Night in May 2014 and Run, Lucifer which came out in March this year.

Whilst talking about her sophomore project, Adna commented “My attempt is not to sound pretentious, but music is my harbourage, and Run, Lucifer is about me being honest to myself, without thinking about how anyone would sense anything”. The raven haired songstress will embark on a European tour over the summer, her next date being in The Netherlands on August 26th, and her first ever dates in the UK will follow shortly afterwards.
