Off Piste Trip To Lodge d’Argent, Coq d’Argent City

December 13, 2018

Restaurants & Bars | by Hannah Brandler

The Christmas lights are glowing, mince pies are at the ready and the weather has taken a frosty turn. To usher in the festive season, we made our way to the VIP launch of Lodge d’Argent, Coq d’Argent’s winter alias in the heart of the City.

The sky-high restaurant remains a prime spot for a rendezvous over classic French cuisine, spreading its love for all things français to its forest-like terraces throughout the winter period. The stylish rooftop terrace is by no means exclusive to the summer months, with heaters and snug fur throws keeping you sheltered from the bitter winter chills. Beneath a canopy of pines and glistening fairy lights, we enjoyed winter warmers and alpine canapés to the tune of violin duets and DJ sets.

Après-ski was kicked off by Hennessy Cognac, whose innovative cocktail menu takes inspiration from the snowscapes of the Alps. Infused with red wine, crème de figue and raspberry jam, the Red Slope is a perfect ode to the festive season, garnished with snow-dusted cranberries. The Avalanche is a welcome alternative to ubiquitous mulled wine, with mixologists fashioning a dessert-like cocktail from Disaronno liqueur and white chocolate foam.

Guests weren’t shy to dive into the cheese-laden canapés, crowding around the enticing appetisers within seconds of their appearance – think Vacherin cheese fondues, Savoyard charcuterie platters and Cajun breaded chicken with spicy mayonnaise. The bite-sized tartiflettes were tout à fait heavenly, a clear winner in the canapé department, while chunks of Alpine cheese were complemented by pear chutney and sliced baguette. Salmon and caviar blinis were gone in a flash, replenished in an instant to the delight of lodgers.

Enjoy all this and more at Lodge d’Argent’s two private chalets nestled in the foliage-strewn winter terrace. Complete with snow globes, sheepskin blankets and an intimate dining table seating up to eight people, the rustic chalets recreate the feeling of a magical French cabin in the Alps. Before heading home decked out in all the festive gear, we were once more transported to the Courchevel slopes at the Ski Cube. The intimate cinema-like room evokes a time gone by with projected show reels of vintage ski footage to be relished from the two plush armchairs with a drink (or two) in hand.

Get into the Christmas spirit with an off-piste trip to Lodge d’Argent, an alpine retreat from the urban bustle below and an enchanting backdrop to any merry occasion.

Lodge d’Argent is open from 21st November 2018 to 28th February 2019.

The Chalets d’Argent must be booked in advance by email or phone.
