British shoe maker Oliver Sweeney has found an original way to celebrate its silver anniversary – adding a new string to its bow in doing so – by launching its first fragrance. Completing the menswear offering which over 25 years has incorporated accessories and ready-to-wear to sit alongside the brand’s iconic footwear, Argento – Italian for silver – celebrates the Sweeney values while conjuring its Italian connections.
Argento’s notes of warm, masculine cedar, cashmere wood and sandalwood recall the time-worn benches in Sweeney’s factories, located in the Le Marche region of Italy, where all of their shoes are lovingly handmade. The Italian air drifting in from the Adriatic sea, picking up the moss and patchouli that is abundant in Le Marche’s rolling hills, is also cited in the fragrance’s evocative blend. An intense opening – containing the finest oud, the olfactory wonder-ingredient that has changed men’s fragrances in recent years – settles down into the Italian-inspired amalgam to create a modern and fresh scent that epitomises the brand’s DNA.
“For me, this fragrance really represents what Oliver Sweeney is all about,” confirmed Tim Cooper, Oliver Sweeney’s CEO. “Mixing classic woody notes that reference our Italian factory with luxurious ones like oud that echoes our obsession for sourcing the best materials, Argento is blended to be both distinctively modern but reassuringly familiar. And of course, it celebrates 25 years of Oliver Sweeney: it’s a way of celebrating our heritage while looking to the future and I’m very pleased with the results. So pleased that I wear it every day!”
Argento is available from Oliver Sweeney’s London stores and soon from oliversweeney.com, £95 for 100ml Eau de Parfum.
