Original Penguin SS15

February 16, 2015

February is the shortest month, but throw in some wind chill factor and it certainly feels like one of the longest. Sensible then to be looking to warmer climes to get us excited about summer or, if we are very lucky, heading straight to Miami Beach to soak up the “winter” rays. That is what Original Penguin have done for their Spring 2015 collection, jumping in their time machine as well as a Virgin Atlantic, and taking inspiration from the Ocean Drive of the late 1950s.

Updating their habitual design aesthetic of modern preppy, the collection lives and breathes its Miami Beach roots in the colour palette: vibrant reds, blues and greens sit alongside pastel pinks and aqua to mirror the contrast of the neon lights and iconic painted buildings of Miami’s Ocean Drive.

Mixing the almost-cliché icons of palm trees and deck chair stripes with summer fabrics like chambray and seersucker, Original Penguin create a bold refresh to instantly make us feel summery. Coral, lava, ocean hues and vivid leaf greens in solids and prints – floral, foliage and stripes – update the brand’s iconic polo shirts, and are also seen on short-sleeve wovens, shorts and knits. Suiting hasn’t been left out of the South Florida treatment either, with a seersucker suit in sky blue and a vintage floral print, perfect for the more daring holidaymaker when the evening draws in.

Spring break never looked so good.
