Peak Performance brings high-end sporty luxury in their AW18 collection
Our Scandi-based Fashion Editor, Thomas Falkenstedt, puts yet another Scandi brand, Peak Performance, in the spotlight, which is fitting given the climate in Scandinavia and the temperatures we’re about to hit elsewhere.
Skiing, in all its forms, is somewhat of a national sport in Scandinavia. As a small kid I remember going up north with my family every year to ski, mostly downhill, and actually being quite good at it. I was three years old when my parents paid for ski instructions in what seemed like a huge slope in Stockholm.
As I grew older we went to real slopes – the Olympic slopes of Lillehammer in Norway as well as world-famous places in northern Finland and Sweden. One of these places was Åre in the north of Sweden, also the birth place of Peak Performance.
Modern, sporty luxury
This season Peak Performance bring you the ultimate high-end, casual uniform for style conscious people always on the move in an urban environment.
Inspired by their own archives, iconic styles have been customised to convey the technical and aesthetic expression of today. The Urban AW18 collection is the essence of modern, sporty luxury.
The palette includes shades of burgundy, grey, red, a rusty orange and a nude pink. Patterns come into play with a contemporary lumberjack check and camo prints.
Always at the core of the brand is outerwear, and this is a strong focus for AW18. The X-Jackets take the lead – a reimagining of four classics from the archives.
They are the result of Peak Performance’s constant effort to question concepts of fashion, sportswear and achieving new innovations.
Redefining technical outerwear
Peak Performance wants to redefine the way we look at clothes and the definitions of what is technical, what is outerwear, what is streetwear and what is fashion.
Working with top end Italian manufacturer Beste, the jackets are made with innovative contemporary materials creating a cool tactile look and feel with edgy, urban detailing.
There’s a down parka, a field jacket, a mountain parka and a liner jacket.
A collaboration with Nigel Cabourn
Another big focus for Aw18 is the second exclusive collaboration between Peak Performance and Nigel Cabourn. The first collection was so successful it had to be repeated.
Drawing inspiration from Cabourn’s impressive vintage archive and Peak Performance’s strong technical knowledge and proficiency in cutting-edge ski and outerwear, has resulted in an exclusive collection of nine pieces.
Cabourn’s personal favourite is the Down Parka. “It’s a bit of a work of art. It’s a very special piece. We’ve taken a fairly commercial old-fashion lining and proofed it to make outerwear out of that,” says Cabourn.
