Recharge After Fashion Week At The Westin Palace, Milan
January 12, 2018
Milan, as most people know, is an extremely hectic city being one of the main fashion capitals of the world. One of the most popular hotels that manage to find the right balance between the corporate and the personal is The Westin Palace in Milan. It is a historic hotel that has had a long tradition of hosting important conferences and banqueting events for the elite of Milan society.
The hotel is centrally located at Piazza della Repubblica, a short walk to most destinations in an up and coming part of town (we managed to discover one of the best pizza parlours in town, Dry Milano in the vicinity of the hotel). The building’s exterior has a somewhat nondescript, austere facade, but your impressions of the hotel will change as you immediately step into the building.
The gorgeous domed ceiling, the multitude of chandeliers and the polished marble floor transports you to a world of grandeur which luxury travellers have come to expect when travelling to historic Milan. The lounge bar is a glorious extension to the reception area offering exclusive aperitif in a refined environment.
For their 227 rooms, you can choose either to stay in their modern wing or a retro-designed wing which still retains their historical charms with modern amenities. We chose one of their junior suite with original features and the first thing that caught our attention was the intricate details retained in the room from aqua marble pillars to the antique chandelier. Fashionistas with a penchant for mirrors will adore this room as the hallway leading to the bedroom is lined with period-looking mirrors.
Their specially-designed Westin Heavenly® bed has a unique plush, pillow-top construction that guarantees superior comfort and support. Not only is this available to humans but also your four-legged friends with a Heavenly® dog bed. Luxurious marble is a predominant feature in the bathroom along with a Heavenly® bath and exclusive white tea by Westin™ bath amenities. The room has all the facilities a modern day traveller expects from 40-inch LCD HD TV and iDocking station to Nespresso coffee machine.
They have a top quality Italian restaurant in the form of PanEVO. Executive Chef Augusto Tombolato has come up with a menu that is simple and so fresh that it varies from day to day. For starters, we tried some addictive tasting burrata cheese-filled ravioli with supersweet datterini tomatoes and a mezzi paccheri pasta which was unusually accompanied with swordfish. For main courses, we tried their signature dishes which included their al dente tasting potato gnocchi and when in Milan, the must-try dish of cotoletta alla Milanese. Chef Augusto’s version was browned in clarified butter which made the taste even tastier, silkier and richer than versions using standard butter. However, for those diet-conscious, they have a special SuperFoodsRx™ menu which are healthy dishes packed with nutrients and energy.
Westin Palace definitely delivers in their stated aims of offering an environment where you can sleep well, feel well, move well, eat well, work well and play well and should be high on the list of hotels to consider when you next visit Milan.
