Scotch & Soda Take Us Up North

Scotch & Soda pays tribute to its stubbornly curious spirit, in Amsterdams around the world. Set in Amsterdam, the Dutch brand’s latest campaign is a far cry from familiar scenes of picturesque canal houses; instead, the mini epic, directed by rising star Fleur Fortuné, follows beautiful characters trekking across frozen fjords. Where is the connection with Amsterdam you might think? The fjords and ice-caps belong to Amsterdam – a much lesser known one at that – in the Arctic.

There are apparently twelve other Amsterdams founded by the Dutch around the world apart from the well-known capital and the campaign wants to call out the capital’s free-thinking, stubbornly curious spirit and pay tribute to it.

The mainstage becomes the Arctic Island, so remote and so close to the North Pole that it is perfect for the brand’s explorer-themed autumn/winter collection. The cast, including models Jessica Luostarinen and Justine Geneau, is beautifully layered for icy landscapes and you would never associate it with the original Amsterdam. According to Scotch and Soda: “Amsterdam is wherever you want it to be”.

Scotch & Soda are discoverers and collectors, scouring the globe for that painting, poem, vintage piece, ruin, or artefact that sparks our never-ending curiosity.

Treasures uncovered on worldly wanders are poured into collections and signature looks that clash eras, classics, places of inspiration, meshing unexpected fabrics and patterns. All collections start life at Number 22, their Canal-side design studio in a former church in the heart of Amsterdam. Scotch & Soda has over 150 stores, and can be found at over 8,000 doors, including the best global department-stores and independents, and on their online store. The autumn/winter collection has just hit the stores this week.
